Swansea are close to completing the signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Renato Sanches on a season-long loan.
PA Sport sources say that Swansea have made significant progress in talks with Sanches’ representatives and that the deal could be concluded in the next 24 hours.
And kicker has reported that the deal would be for one year with a fee of €8.5 million plus add-ons with no option to buy. The outlet says Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool were also interested in the Portugal international, but only with an option to buy.
Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said: “We wanted Renato Sanches to join a club where he can consistently play at a high level and where he has a coach who banks on him.
“Renato has to constantly win minutes for a year. That wasn’t possible with our squad. He’s aware he has to step on the gas now.”
Sanches’ signing would represent a significant coup for Swansea and their head coach Paul Clement, who worked with the midfielder in his role as Bayern assistant coach last season.
Swansea have been seeking a creative influence since the departure of Gylfi Sigurdsson to Everton for a club-record £45m fee two weeks ago.
And Clement has been able to call on his contacts at Bayern where he worked as Carlo Ancelotti’s assistant before moving to Swansea in January.
Clement was impressed with Sanches during his time in Bavaria and it now appears he has managed to pull off his bold bid to sign the 20-year-old.
Sanches joined Bayern from Benfica for €35m in May 2016 when he was recognised as one of the brightest young prospects in European football.
He made 26 appearances for the German champions last season after being a member of Portugal’s Euro 2016-winning squad.
But Ancelotti sanctioned Sanches going out on loan and sources say that Swansea suits Bayern as they are not a Champions League rival.
Sanches is currently on international duty with Portugal ahead of their 2018 World Cup qualifier against the Faroe Islands in Porto on Thursday and he could have a medical before the game if negotiations with Swansea are completed.
And Sanches could be joined in Wales by countryman and Norwich City striker Nelson Oliveira, sources close to Swansea have told ESPN FC.
Swansea are looking at striking reinforcements with Fernando Llorente closing in on a move to Chelsea and Portugal international Oliveira figures highly on their wanted list.
Oliveira’s future at Norwich has been the subject of speculation this summer with a number of clubs expressing an interest in his services.
The 26-year-old has not been a regular starter for new Norwich boss Daniel Farke this season, but he has still managed to score three goals, despite starting only two of five Championship games he has played in.
Oliveira joined Norwich City last summer from Benfica after impressing on loan at Nottingham Forest the previous season.
The talented forward scored nine goals in 29 appearances for Nottingham Forest and his performances led Norwich to signing him last summer.
Oliveira impressed at Carrow Road last season, netting 15 goals in 32 games in all competitions, despite Norwich’s struggles in the Championship last season.
Swansea are now ready to test Norwich’s resolve to hang onto Oliveira and offer the player the chance to move to the Premier League.
