The 28-year-old reveals the Brazilian made him fall in love with football and also targets victory in Saturday’s El Gran Derbi

Sevilla and Betis slug it out for the first time this season in Saturday’s El Gran Derbi – the most hotly anticipated fixture of the year. And Real Betis’s Cristian Tello and Sevilla FC’s Sergio Escudero break down how much the game means to Goal.

Q: What were your thoughts when you used to watch #ElGranDerbi (the derby between Sevilla FC and Real Betis) on television?

ESCUDERO: Whenever I watched Sevilla face Betis on television, I was always bowled over by the wonderful atmosphere and the rivalry between two teams from the same city with vocal fan bases that always get behind their side. It’s one of the most fantastic derbies in world football.

TELLO: As current LaLiga Santander players in the top flight, we constantly think about the fact that we now get the opportunity to savour such atmospheres from the inside.

Q: How would you explain what Sevilla v Betis means to a foreigner?

ESCUDERO: It’s very difficult to explain the feeling that’s entrenched in the game, both at the club and among supporters… You have to be wearing one of the teams’ colours to be able to fully experience it.

TELLO: It’s a spectacular city derby because of the atmosphere and the rivalry between supporters, which is fantastic to see.

Q: If #ElGranDerbi were a film, what would it be?

ESCUDERO:  I think it would be Star Wars, the goodies against the baddies. Of course, that depends on your allegiances (laughter), but as far as we’re concerned, we’re the goodies and they’re the baddies, and it’s the other way round for them.

TELLO: I’d go for 2 Fast 2 Furious.

Q: What do you like the most about Seville?

ESCUDERO: Above all, the people, who’ve treated me so well since I arrived and have always given me everything.

TELLO: I agree. What I like the most is the people because of the way they follow their football and the passion with which they live their lives.

Q: Who is your idol?

ESCUDERO: As a youngster, I always looked up to Roberto Carlos, because of the position that he played in and the fact that he was such an attacking full-back.

TELLO: Since I was little, I’ve always really liked Fernando Torres because of his pace and movement. Now I’d go with [Lionel] Messi, who is undoubtedly the best player in the world.

Q: If you weren’t a footballer, what would you be?

ESCUDERO: If I weren’t a footballer, I’d have liked to have done something in sport. Maybe I’d be a coach or a PE teacher. It would certainly involve sport.

TELLO: I think I’d have also done something connected to sport. I’ve always really liked sport since I was little and if I hadn’t been lucky enough to become a footballer, I would’ve done something else in the same field.

Q: What’s your prediction for #ElGranDerbi?

Cheap Juventus FC Jersey Wholesale From China

Juventus general manager Beppe Marotta has said the club are keeping tabs on Liverpool midfielder Emre Can and Schalke’s Leon Goretzka, who could both be available on free transfers in June.

The Germany internationals are out of contract with their clubs in the summer, and Juve were linked with a move for Goretzka in the last transfer window.

“They are two luxury free transfers and we are at the window,” Marotta told reporters in Milan.

“It will all come down to their individual will.”

Marotta has built a reputation for signing top players on free transfers, having brought in Andrea Pirlo, Paul Pogba and Kingsley Coman in the recent past.

But the Serie A champions will face stiff competition for both Can and Goretzka, with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund expected to make offers to the players.

Barcelona and a number of Premier League clubs have also been linked with Goretzka, who has scored four goals in his nine Bundesliga appearances this season.

The 22-year-old former Bochum midfielder has also hit three in his past three appearances for Germany.

Real Madrid

Real Madrid’s injury problems have mounted with Isco and Raphael Varane missing training on Monday morning for tests, while it looks unlikely that either Gareth Bale or Keylor Navas will be back for Wednesday’s Champions League Group H game against Tottenham at Wembley.

Varane was substituted at half-time during Sunday’s shock 2-1 La Liga defeat at Girona. Zinedine Zidane said afterwards that the centre-back had suffered an adductor muscle issue.

Isco completed the 90 minutes despite appearing to have picked up a thigh problem late in the game.

Zidane said before the trip to Girona that he “would see” on Monday how Bale and Navas’ recoveries from their recent injuries were progressing ahead of the trip to England, so their absence from the group session suggests both the ex-Tottenham winger and team’s first-choice goalkeeper will not travel.

“The squad trained at Real Madrid City as they begin to prepare for the Champions League game against Tottenham, which will be played on Wednesday at Wembley (8.45pm CEST),” a club statement said.

“The players who started the game against Girona trained at a lower intensity out on the field, apart from Isco and Varane, who worked inside. Zidane had the Castilla goalkeeper Moha and the under-19s Dario with him in a session where ball work was the focus. Bale, [Dani] Carvajal, [Mateo] Kovacic and Keylor Navas continue their recovery processes. The first two trained alone on the field with and without a ball.”

No expected return date has yet been given for right-back Carvajal, who has not played since an infection in his chest was diagnosed a month ago.

Eighteen-year-old Achraf Hakimi has started five of Madrid’s last six games, and is expected to again deputise at Wembley, with Nacho Fernandez in place of Varane in central defence.

Isco’s absence would open a potential starting place for Marco Asensio or Dani Ceballos.

Madrid and Tottenham both have seven points from their opening three Champions League fixtures, following their 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu a fortnight ago. A win for either side will all but secure passage to the round-of-16, regardless of the result in Wednesday’s other Group H clash where Borussia Dortmund host Apoel Nicosia.
